We’ve just returned from a great meet at Tattingstone, in Suffolk, courtesy of MotorhomeFun. Had a lovely time, and it was good to meet up with some existing friends, and to make some new ones.

The site, at the rear of the White Horse Pub, is just a couple of hundred metres from Alton Waters, a lovely man-made lake, with a great cycle / walking path all around it.

My daughter Sarah and her husband Mick stayed from Thursday until Saturday.

We (and they) had a nice time. We had to sample the delights of the Bay Tree Cafe – 6 starters between the four of us, and a pudding each. Very tasty!

On Saturday, we went for a walk with Tess around the headland.

Our friends Heather and Mike stayed this weekend – our first guests since we (almost) finished the house.

We ordered, and received, beautiful weather for our trundles along the beach – to Frinton Art Deco houses on the Saturday, and to Stone Point on the Sunday.
Oh, and we made Mike watch Strictly Come Dancing on the Saturday night. Tee hee!

For the first time, we’ve been able to ‘follow-on’ from the Shepton Show to a week-long rally at Warren Farm campsite at Brean Sands in Somerset.

A beautiful campsite, with huge pitches, flat and grassy, and really good facilities.
The beach is a one minute walk from the campsite entrance, and there is Weston-super-Mare close by if you’ve a mind (takes me back to my childhood days, with miles of sandy beach … between the prom and the sea).
A smashing rally, much enjoyed by everyone.

We’ve moved on from the Shepton Motorhome Show. It was (as usual) a really good show for us, although we ended up spending far too much money again
We bought a number of items of walking clothes, which were much cheaper than they would have been.

We also looked around a few vans. Some interesting things – for instance, the Murvi Mallard was quite cute, if you’re into small campervans. We especially liked the way the bed made up – very quick, and simple. Not really for us at the moment.
We also saw some humungously-expensive motorhomes, and once again we were struck by how much people were prepared to pay for something which is no better than ours.
But, overall, a good show.

It’s been a while since I posted. What I should do is to fill in all the significant things that have happened since the last (Mother’s day) post. But most of it is the usual *blah* so I probably won’t.
Anyway, we’re back from a long weekend / short week. First, it was off to Hatton Country World for the MHF annual Global Rally. We had a great time, in a motorhome rally kind of way. Did some nice walks, Tess had fun with other dogs (although she was still in season, so we were prepared with our size 9 boots to kick any amorous doggy advances into touch), and met some nice people. Thanks to all of the organisers – a huge job.
We went from there to Oxford, to see Paul for a couple of days. Had a nice time, weather was ever-so-dicky, and we just about got the side awning down on the last day before the heavens opened.
There you go. A valid blog post.

Happy Mothers’ day, Annie!

Went for a 4 mile walk around Weeley today. This was from the “Walking around the Tendring Hundred” book, by Hilary and Jeremy Russell. It was a lovely walk, the weather was fantastic, and Tess was a brilliant walker (but a bit tired by the time we got back to the car).
Then it was off to The Tea Rooms for a lovely soup and a sandwich lunch, and thence to The Victory for a drink and some live music, courtesy of “DNA”.

Things has been a bit busy in the household since we got back from our New Year fun.
Early in January, work started on our loft conversion. We’ve got a blog for it! Yes! That’s a shock, isn’t it? It is :: Loft Conversion :: We’re supposed to be half way through the work – loft conversion for master bedroom and shower room, new kitchen, new downstairs shower room, and some other bits and pieces. So far, we’ve had a new boiler, half the loft floored, new insulation, two ceilings down, and a lot of mess. The poor Miele vac is working hard to make the place a bit tidy at the end of the week.
Tess is growing, and is great fun. She has her own blog – :: Tess the Golden Retriever ::. We get down to the beach nearly every day, and Tess loves it. She does like saying hello to other dogs, though
Annie is engaging in a number of local activities, including swimming (me too), and a couple of book clubs, rambles with the local group, and various other things. Me? I sit with a computer on my lap, doing stuff like this.
We’re really looking forward to:
a) the weather getting warmer, and
b) the builders finishing all their work
Have fun. More soon.

We had a lovely New Year. We got the motorhome ready, and drove 260 miles to Burton upon Stather. We spent a great 3 days at a beautiful campsite – Brookside.
Organised by friends Shane and then Norman and Sandra, we did lots of dog walking, and New Year’s eve was spent in a small marquee, with fan heaters, in the company of 5 other MotorhomeFacts members.
Tess was excellent on the long journey there and back, and she settled in well in the van. We even left her on her own a couple of times to spend time with our friends, and returned to the van to find her asleep on her bed.
Can’t wait until the next trip.

We’ve had a lovely first Christmas in our new house, and in our new lifestyle. It was quiet (at least, as quiet as it can be with a growing puppy and two cats), but we’ve seen our offspring either side of Christmas day, which was nice.
Everyone seems to have settled in well. Tess, the dog, is growing bigger all the time, and the cats still hate her. Maybe when she’s a bit less of a puppy, and accepts that they don’t want to play with her, they’ll be better together.
The architect has drawn up plans, modified them, and re-drawn them, and we’re now happy that they are what we want – a bedroom and shower room ‘upstairs’, a porch to the front like the neighbours, and a deck to the (south facing) rear. We’re also getting the kitchen done whilst we’re at it. It’ll be lovely when it’s all finished, but I suspect it’ll be a pain during the process.
